Dr. Andrew Herrity is a consultant to business and organizational leaders, a coach to entrepreneurs and CEOs, a speaker, a scholar and author, a serial entrepreneur, and professor. His clients and former students include thousands of business and organizational leaders all over the world. While Dean of the School of Business at California Baptist University (CBU) from 2006-2012, he served as design consultant to the University President for CBU’s new School of Business building, opened in 2012. His Ph.D. in Organizational Theory was awarded in 2002 by the University of California for his research dissertation on CEOs. He currently serves as Professor of Business Administration at CBU’s School of Business.
Before starting his university and consulting career, he founded a bank by attracting multi-million dollar pool of capital investors, securing federal deposit insurance, recruiting, hiring and developing a talented staff, and organizing the opening. He established bank as regionally-known boutique commercial real-estate lender for difficult-to-finance projects and led it successfully as CEO to seven years of growth and eventual sale to another financial institution.
This last experience capped a 20-year career as an executive in the banking industry that began with Bank of America following college graduation. During this time, he developed a passion for developing the people around him; this passion continues today as he works to develop both startup and sustaining business and organizational leaders.
Dr. Herrity has a reputation among clients and former students for making complex concepts more easily understood. This is attributed to his unique package of experience as financial industry executive, human behavior scholar, and popular teacher of markets and marketing. He is especially known for helping people better understand their business model by asking questions to uncover underlying assumptions. People who know him call Andy.
He is the author of several scholarly articles on entrepreneurs. He is also a member of the Riverside CEOs Technology Forum, a group dedicated to fostering innovation and entrepreneurship in inland Southern California. In addition, he sits on a variety of city and regional boards and commissions and serves the broader community through Chamber of Commerce and other activities.
Dr. Herrity was born in Birmingham, England, and attended St. Philip’s School which counts among its former students J.R.R. Tolkien, author of “The Lord of the Rings”. St. Philips was also known for outstanding athletes. Andrew Herrity achieved success in track and field, becoming the British Junior Champion in the one-mile run with a time of 4 minutes and 4 seconds. He left England in 1967 to enter the University of Southern California on an athletic scholarship and graduated in 1971 with a bachelor’s degree in economics. While at USC he met and married the former Terry Lynn Call. They live in Riverside, have two adult daughters and two grandchildren, and enjoy hiking and traveling internationally.
