Ever wondered what it takes to be an entrepreneur?

The professional and personal challenges, the high and lows, the failures and the success?

Startup Weekend is a global grassroots movement of active and empowered entrepreneurs who are learning the basics of founding startups and launching successful ventures. It is the largest community of passionate entrepreneurs with over 1800 past events in 120 countries around the world in 2014.

The non-profit organization is headquartered in Seattle, Washington but Startup Weekend organizers and facilitators can be found in over 200 cities around the world. From Mongolia to South Africa to London to Brazil, people around the globe are coming together for weekend long workshops to pitch ideas, form teams, and start companies.

All Startup Weekend events follow the same basic model: anyone is welcome to pitch their startup idea and receive feedback from their peers. Teams organically form around the top ideas (as determined by popular vote) and then it’s a 54 hour frenzy of business model creation, coding, designing, and market validation. The weekends culminate with presentations in front of local entrepreneurial leaders with another opportunity for critical feedback.

Whether entrepreneurs found companies, find a cofounder, meet someone new, or learn a skill far outside their usual 9-to-5, everyone is guaranteed to leave the event better prepared to navigate the chaotic but fun world of startups. Ralph Richardson

Ralph Richardson is the founder and CEO of Maven 2.0, a technology company proudly headquartered in Riverside, California. Maven 2.0 works with everyone from startups to large corporations to build corporate websites, SaaS apps, MVPs and mobile apps.

Ralph received his B.S. in Finance from Oakwood University and worked as a banking executive for 4 years at Butterfield bank in Bermuda before starting his first company. Now a passionate serial entrepreneur, he's launched more than half a dozen ventures over the last 12 years and currently advises for a few California based startups including Heckler Sports, Brewt Pour, and TimeKlok. His areas of expertise include - product development, revenue strategies, customer development, and business model generation.

Ralph is a member of the Greater Riverside Chambers of Commerce and can also be regularly spotted at LeanLA or Rockfield Labs. He proudly serves as a co-organizer for StartupIE and as a Director of Riverside.IO.

He genuinely enjoys antagonizing startup executives, helping them avoid pitfalls, and helping to them to improve the odds of success. He hopes to retire as a millionaire and one day finally make it to South by South West!

Rusty Bailey

Since graduating from West Point with a degree in political science in 1994, Rusty has worked in a variety of public service positions and has earned a Master's Degree in Public Policy from UCLA.

Among his many accomplishments, Rusty has served as a helicopter pilot, Platoon Leader and Company Executive Officer in the U.S. Army, and has served as a Legislative Aide for County Supervisor John F. Tavaglione. In addition, Rusty has worked for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and the Executive Office of the President as a Presidential Management Fellow, as well as for the Riverside County Economic Development Agency. Mayor Bailey enjoys time with his two daughters, Elizabeth and Julia and his wife, Judy.

Molly Schmid

Molly B. Schmid, Ph.D. is the President of the Inland Empire network of the Tech Coast Angels, a member of the TCA Board of Directors, and a a Senior Counselor for TriTech Small Business Development Center. She has had a distinguished career in academia, where she was Professor and Entrepreneur-in-Residence at Keck Graduate Institute of Applied Life Sciences in Claremont CA, and was previously an Assistant Professor of Molecular Biology at Princeton University.

She has also held senior leadership positions in the biotech industry, where she served as Senior Vice President of Preclinical Programs at Affinium Pharmaceuticals in Toronto, Director of Genomics and Bioinformatics at Genencor International, and Director of Biology and Vice President of Research Alliances at Microcide Pharmaceuticals. In these companies, she was part of executive teams that raised over $100MM in funding through venture capital, corporate partnerships, public markets, and US and Canadian federal research grants. She has been honored for her achievements as a Fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology, a Searle Scholar, and a Damon-Runyon Fellow. She has nine issued U.S. patents, and several others pending.

Rajan Kasetty

Rajan Kasetty is the CEO of Terrafore, Inc., a Consulting and Technology Development Company. Terrafore’s focus areas are Solar Energy and Energy Efficiency, specializing in thermal energy storage for CSP and consulting services for large scale Solar PV and CSP systems.

Prior to starting Terrafore, Rajan was the CEO of Infotech Enterprises America, part of a group of companies which currently has 35 global locations and more than 12,000 people. Infotech offers Engineering Design and IT services for aerospace, automotive and industrial sectors and Geographical Information Systems for utilities, transportation and governments. He was a founding Director on the Board of the parent company in India. He established and ran the company’s subsidiaries in USA, Puerto Rico and Canada.

After graduating in Electrical Engineering in 1974, Rajan began his career as a Management Trainee with the DCM group in Hyderabad, India. Since 1976, he has been an entrepreneur in engineering, consulting, manufacturing and IT sectors working with international clients and customers. Rajan’s entrepreneurial experience includes power distribution systems, manufacture of special purpose pumps, machine-tool controls, production automation, engineering design, Information Technology and GIS services.

Rajan has been living in California since 1999. He was a Member of the High Tech Task Force of the City of Riverside and is currently a Board Member of Smart Riverside and a Member of Riverside Technology CEO Forum. He volunteers with the Clean Tech Open as a competition judge and mentor for participating startups. He also mentors several startup ventures in Southern California.

Dr. Andrew Herrity

Dr. Andrew Herrity is a consultant to business and organizational leaders, a coach to entrepreneurs and CEOs, a speaker, a scholar and author, a serial entrepreneur, and professor. His clients and former students include thousands of business and organizational leaders all over the world. While Dean of the School of Business at California Baptist University (CBU) from 2006-2012, he served as design consultant to the University President for CBU’s new School of Business building, opened in 2012. His Ph.D. in Organizational Theory was awarded in 2002 by the University of California for his research dissertation on CEOs. He currently serves as Professor of Business Administration at CBU’s School of Business.

Alan Roy

Alan is a self-taught UX designer with a prior background in visual design and an interest for dabbling in front-end development. Born in Argentina, Alan emigrated to the U.S. around the age of eleven and quickly developed an interest for computers and the web. While attending University, he studied Sociology and Marketing, with multidisciplinary subjects that spanned ethnographic research, market segmentation, and user behaviorism.

In the past few years, he has been involved with several in-house projects and outside startups. His role is to open up and encourage team involvement within the product design and development cycle, and is a firm believer that delivering great experiences makes the world a better place.

Bill Donohoo

Bill brings over 40 years experience in the business world in large and small organizations. He has founded eight companies. He was founder and president of the Gibson Group which was ranked #7 and #175 on Inc. 500’s Fastest Growing Companies. He served on the board of directors of West Indies Pulp and Paper in Kingston, Jamaica.

Bill served on the Board of Directors for the Harvard Business School Association of Orange County. He has served on or currently serves on the boards of several non-profit organizations. Since 2003 Bill has taught at Cal State San Bernardino. He became full time in 2007.

Mark Mitchell

Mark has an extensive background in entrepreneurship and marketing. He is director of the TriTech Small Business Development Center which helps Southern California business owners and entrepreneurs turn their enterprise into a hyper-growth company by commercializing their new technologies, market their products and services, and identify capital and knowledge resources.

Mark has built a dynamic senior consulting management team since becoming director at TriTech in 2006. Mark believes the team is the magic of TriTech. They are made up of former successful serial entrepreneurs and CEO's of corporations that know how to get you funded and/or grow a business from the ground up if you are are too early for funding.
